Ending the Conflict
Although the war between the Spanish and the English was never formally declared, the fighting stopped and treaties were signed in 1604 as shown by the picture above. The period after the defeat of the Spanish Armada was a time of intermittent conflict and battles between the two opposing sides. Eventually, both England and Spain had had enough of the fighting and organized the peace treaty's signing almost 16 years after the initial start of the war.

The Armada's defeat left Spain nearly bankrupt. Before the Spanish had dominated Europe's political and religious stage, as well as holding much power in the new world. With the defeat of the Spanish Armada, England entered into a time of peace and prosperity that is sometimes known as the "Golden Age." This period of tranquility for England is often accredited to Queen Elizabeth's defensive actions towards the Spanish, who proved that she was a force to be reckoned with.
